What is Wrong with Heaven?

Well, nothing is wrong with heaven. In fact the Apostle Paul says in Philippians 3:20, that "our citizenship is in heaven and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ." But in an interview with Time Magazine, Biblical scholar and theologian N.T. Wright says our understanding about heaven is all wrong. He even says Arnold's wife is wrong! Take a read of what Tom has to say, and give us your thoughts. I'd love to read your comments!

I think Wright is right about this. But I would not want to diminish the conscious joy that the dead in Christ experience right now. This is corroborated by near death experiences of those who have had a taste of heaven. If you push this too far you are into 'soul sleep' which has been soundly rejected by the mainstream of the Church.

Dad,
I remember hearing a camp counselor who I worked with at boys brigade camp say that Heaven was a tabernacle and we all were in the outer courts for eternity worshipping God who remained in the inner courts with his most beloved followers. Or something like that. I was crushed. At the time I was a 20 somthing with a Bible Degree and knew better, but the idea that he could be correct absolutely destroyed me. When I talk about Heaven I picture and describe a massive I mean MASSIVE city where Jesus Reigns and we all have work still to do, but it is a place of unending joy, eternal life and constant worship. Outside the gates are another story, but when I picture Heaven that is what I see, of course I also think, and this is just my dreaming, no actual theological backing here, that we will be able to explore the wonder of His Creation, i.e. the stars. That gets me going pretty good too, imagine Jesus giving us a guided tour of the cosmos. Gives me chills. Again, NO BIBLICAL BASIS, just a boy dreaming.
Love you dad.
